Lidding:

A folding over of the helical rim or upper third of the ear.  It occurs when the superior crus or the fossa fails to form correctly. The top of the ear often appears to lop over.

Cup Ear:

The cup ear is an advanced form of the Prominent ear with an incomplete opening of the ear. It is often characterized by very stiff and resistant cartilage around the scapha and helical rim that resembles a purse string around the helical rim.

Helical rim:

Helical rim irregularities or compression may occur anywhere along the outer rim of the helical rim. The outer rim of the ear may appear wavy or compressed.

Prominent Ear:

Prominent ear appears an abnormally protruding ear. It is also known as Bat Ear or Dumbo Ear. The ear over projects greater than 9 mm from the mastoid and is quite significant. It is often undiagnosed due to the untrained eye.

Conchal Crus:

The conchal crus deformity is an abnormal fold of ear cartilage that crosses the mid portion of the conchal bowl. It appears to divide the ear in half. It often results in a Prominent ear.

Constricted Ear:

The Constricted ear is a result of the incomplete formation of skin between the scapha and helical rim.  The helical rim is tightly bound to the scapha.

Stahl’s Ear:

The Stahl’s ear deformity is also known as Spock Ear or Elf Ear. It is expressed by a third transverse crus extending outward from the antihelix rather than continuing upward in a gentle bend as the superior limb of the triangular fossa.   The Stahl’s ear often presents with multiple combinations of deformity.
